In 1988 Calgary, Alberta, hosted the XV Olympic Winter Games. To commemorate the event, and assist in the financing the Federal government through the Royal Mint agreed to produce a serie of ten sterling silver coins . The silver coins were issued in sets of $20 over the period september 1985 through september 1987. Unlike the 1976 olympic coins the Calgary winter olympic coins were issued in proof quality only.
