The 1994 proof commemorative silver dollar marks the 25th anniversary of the last dog team patrol of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, which took place from March 11 to April 5, 1969, from Old Crow, YK to Fort McPherson, NWT and back. The patrol led by Constable Warren Townsend and Special Constable Peter Benjamin covered 804.5 km on sleds pulled by 21 purebred Siberian huskies.
The reverse design of the coin made by Canadian artist Ian D. Sparkes portrays a dog team led by an RCMP officer in the Canadian North.
